Atlanta Brewing Company is back! Truth be told, though, they never really went away. Georgia’s oldest brewer began operating way back in 1994 as Atlanta Brewing Company, and brewed a number of beers under the Red Brick label. By the time I moved here in 2001 they were well established indeed and one of my go to sources for local craft beer, along with the better known Sweetwater and now defunct Dogwood.
Back
in 2010, though, Atlanta Brewing Company changed its name to better reflect and
promote the core Red Brick brands, becoming, you guessed it, Red Brick Brewing
Company. Just this year, however, in anticipation of the brewery’s 25th
Anniversary, the brewery name has been changed back to Atlanta Brewing Company.
A few new beers have been rolled out, including Soul of the City Pale Ale,
an American Pale Ale I tried at Taco Mac.
Atlanta Brewing says of their new brew:
This new American Pale Ale celebrates the brewer's spirit of innovation, utilizing pale malt, flaked oats and a combination of Citra, Denali and Crystal hops from the pacific northwest. A soft, bright, and tropical take on a classic style.
Red Brick Soul of the City Pale Ale has an alcohol content of 5.7% by volume with 45 IBUs. I paid $5.75 for a 23-ounce mug at Taco Mac and the beer runs $8.99 a six-pack at Total Wine.
My mug of Red Brick Soul of the City Pale Ale arrived a beautiful orange amber color with a soft fruity nose. Taking a sip I got light caramel malt appropriate to a pale ale, passion fruit and pears, and a balancing herbal grassy bitterness. A beauty of a delicate pale ale, drinkable and flavorful all at a very nice price.
And remember, try a new beer today, and drink outside the box.
