Press Check Pale Ale

Review Date 1/31/2020   By John Staradumsky

If it’s Thursday, this must be Taco Mac! And it is, though not my usual Taco Mac. Nope! I’m at Woodstock tonight (I was at Alpharetta last week). Canton is going to get jealous! Canton is my local and I almost always go there (why wouldn’t I, it’s about 2.5 miles from my house), but tonight, I’m at the Woodstock location, about 10 miles away.

What am I drinking you ask? Why a Press Check Pale Ale from Printer’s Ale Manufacturing of Carrollton, Georgia. Printer’s Ales are featured as beers of the month, and I’m enjoying this one for the first time. I had not done any research on the beer before I ordered it up, but I do so love pale ales, so I took a shot.

I’m glad I did! Earlier in the month, one of the pint night tchotchkes was a pamphlet on beer and brewing. I’ve scanned in the page on American Pale Ales and Press Check in particular. You can see the classic American hops used and boy did they come through in this beer. I also love that they pay homage to Anchor Liberty Ale and Sierra Nevada Pale Ale. As well they should.

Printers Ale Press Check Pale Ale has an alcohol content of 5.6% by volume and I paid $6.80 for a 23-ounce mug, free cool bottle opener included.

My mug of Printers Ale Press Check Pale Ale arrived a brilliant orange amber in color with a moderate head formation and bright citrus aromas in the nose. Taking a sip, there is medium caramel malt appropriate to a pale ale, hints of resin, grapefruit pith and peel, and long lasting dry bitter grapefruit rind peel in the finish.

This American Pale Ale kicks the ass of so many so-called IPAs these days, let alone APAs. Magnificent!

And remember, try a new beer today, and drink outside the box.
