Once in a great while a beer comes along that totally takes
your breath away. This is that beer. When I first poured the beer in my
glass and took a sniff of the incredibly delicate malt nose and subtle
fruitiness, I thought I had died and gone to heaven (they say in heaven
there is no beer, but if there isn't it can't be heaven in my book.)
I marveled at the rich golden color of this brew. I savored the crisp malt palate, the wonderful apple-pear fruitiness, the sublimely balanced finish with just the right amount of hop bitterness to match the malt but not overpower it. It's balance that defines this beer, in many ways it reminds me of Smuttynose Shoal's Pale Ale and Deschuttes Mirror Pond. Definitely a gem in the crown of the beer world.
