Here’s a beer that’s been sitting in my beer fridge for a year or so: Portside Man O’ War Imperial IPA. I have a bomber bottle that I got in a beer trade awhile back and that I am now enjoying. Don’t look for the beer on the Portside website, as it is not currently featured, and they tend to remove a page on a particular beer when it is not on tap at the brewery.
Portside says:
Portside’s Man O War is as powerful as the great ship whose name it shares.
Made with a generous amount of hops from New Zealand, Australia, and
America, the beer has a wonderful hop aroma…
Portside Man O War Imperial IPA has an alcohol content of 9.6% by volume. Portside beers are not sold in Georgia, but I got a bottle in trade from the always generous Dave Coulter.
Portside Man O War Imperial IPA pours to a bright orange color with a medium head of foam and a citrusy, floral orange nose. Taking a sip, the beer has beautiful caramel malts up front with big citrusy notes of bitter orange rind and perfumey hop aroma, and a bit of pine to boot. Medium bitter finish though it may have mellowed with age and it’s all rounded out with alcohol warmth.
A very citrusy imperial IPA treat that I highly recommend, if you can find it.
And remember, try a new beer today, and drink outside the box.
