Time for an imperial stout! I must confess I really love a good imperial stout, and every now and again a hankering comes upon me to drink one. Or maybe two, even. Rummaging through my beer fridge, I found a bottle of Port City Colossal 6 6th Anniversary Russian Imperial Stout that I got from good ole Jeff Evans in the spring of 2017. Oh yeah. We’re drinking that tonight.
Port City brews a new Colossal beer each year to celebrate their birthday, so we’ll never see Colossal 6 again (they’re on to Colossal 7 for 2018 which is aa Scotch Ale). I have at least another bottle of Colossal 6 floating around in one of my beer fridges, though, so I’ll get to drink it again.
Port City says:
Inky black with a tan cap, Port City’s 6th Anniversary Russian Imperial Stout bursts with notes of cocoa powder, freshly roasted coffee, and leather. Lovely when fresh, Colossal 6 will age beautifully for years to come.
Port City Colossal 6 6th Anniversary Russian Imperial Stout has an alcohol content of 10.2% by volume with 65 IBUs. The bottle under consideration today was packaged on 01/24/2017 and I drank it on 10/25/2018, so about 1 year and three quarters of age on it.
Port City Colossal 6 6th Anniversary Russian Imperial Stout pours to a jet-black color with a thick creamy tan head of foam and a rich powdered cocoa nose. Taking a sip, the beer has a full rich body with deep dark chocolate and cocoa notes, roasted malt and a warming alcohol finish.
Quite complex and flavorful, I’m interested to see how this one further develops. I’ll be back to tell you more in a year or two.
And remember, try a new beer today, and drink outside the box.
