Poor Henry's is an impressive place, a nice brewpub with more than a few taps, it's also a microbrewery with two brewhouses. We got a tour and a bit
of history from owner Henry Ortlieb, including a true story of how the original Ortlieb brewery was lost in a card game and then won back a few hands later.
We enjoyed a delicious crock of French onion soup along with the smooth and tasty Cream Ale to start out, a salad with a beer I missed because I snuck
off to buy a pint of the absolutely incredible Vanilla Porter (rich with chocolate, laced with vanilla, creamy and delicious) at the bar, and a hoppy IPA and clovey hefeweizen with the main course (I chose the chicken breast with shrimp and mushrooms in a tomato sauce, crab-stuffed flounder or filet mignon were also available). Last but not least, the aforementioned Vanilla Porter with a scoop of chocolate ice cream made a delicious beer float.
And remember, try a new beer today, and drink outside the box.
