Perlenbacher Hefeweizen

Review Date 7/12/2021 By John Staradumsky

I decided to do a Lidl shopping. That’s a dad joke, you see, because as you have probably already guessed, I went to Lidl to do it. Lidl offers great value for your grocery shopping dollar, and they carry items imported from Germany, which of course I am excited about. Among those items, of course, is German beer. They had me at German beer.

One of those fine German beers is Perlenbacher Premium Pilsner, which I have bought in the past at Lidl. This time around, I scored a six-pack of Perlenbacher Hefeweizen. This was, in fact, the last six-pack of the Hefeweizen they had, saved no doubt just for me to find. Ninkasi can be kind at times. Mind you, when I say six-pack, I mean a six pack of half-liter bottles, which is in fact a lot of beer.

What did I pay for that big six-pack? Why just $10.99, under two dollars a bottle. Where else can you get a half-liter of tasty German Hefeweizen for that price? I’m sure I don’t know. Perlenbacher Hefeweizen has an alcohol content of 5.5% by volume. My bottles are marked as best by 01/19/2022.

Perlenbacher Hefeweizen pours to a cloudy yellow orange color with a thick fluffy white head and a vibrant nose of spicy clove and a hint of banana. Taking a sip, the beer is crackery and tart in body, creamy, very refreshing, with the spicy cloves the nose promised and more powerful representations of banana in the palate. It finishes tart wheaty and very refreshing.

As German hefes got his is a tasty one, and I would peg it at about 3 ½ stars with a bonus half star for the bargain basement price. If you’re at Lidl and see it, why not pick up a six-pack? I know I would again.

And remember, try a new beer today, and drink outside the box.
