This beer is from Peak Northwest of Milwaukie Oregon, the
first brewery to operate a Peter Austin system and brew with Ringwood yeast
on the West Coast. The color of the beer is, as the name implies, ruby, and
the beer has minimal carbonation and a malty-yeasty nose. When I say yeasty,
I'm referring to the typical musty Ringwood profile which works so well with
English malts (five different ones in this case). Diacetyl is not present in
significant quantity, but the beer does have a delightfully crisp, biscuity
malt character with a touch of cotton candy thrown in for good measure. The
finish is rounded out nicely with a bitter (Goldings?) bite. A very well
rounded brew, a perfect balancing act of yeast, malt, and hops, and a great
English style pale ale.
And remember, try a new beer today, and drink outside the box.
