Paperback Golden State Festbier
Review Date 12/5/2021 By John Staradumsky
Festbier time! The calendar may say December, but my palate is saying September or, at the very latest, early October. I’m craving some Teutonic malty and hoppy goodness and that led me to pop open my can of Paperback Golden State Festbier! While this beer hails from California rather than Germany, your palate will not be able to tell the difference and will be happy indeed at the very first sip.
Paperback doesn’t say much about the beer on the label or their website, but I did read this on Craftshack.com prior to making my purchase:
Celebrating the rich culture and ingenuity of California. This Festbier is for you, Golden State!
Well that doesn’t really tell me much either, but hey, Paperback has never let me down, and this beer is no exception. The beer has an alcohol content of 5.7% by volume and I paid $3.92 for my can from Craftshack, and that is the only pricing information I have. My can has no freshness dating.
Paperback Golden State Festbier pours to a pale golden color with a prodigious fluffy white head and a nose of soft biscuit malt. Taking a sip, the beer is medium in body and appropriate to the style, smooth malty, fresh bready (with the crusts on). A balancing grassy bitter finish rounds it out nicely and makes this a tasty, quaffable beer that I would certainly drink again.
Glad I tried it? T
Would I rebuy it??
