I do this all the time, folks. I buy a bunch of beers, and then I buy a bunch of other beers, and somebody inevitably gets pushed to the back of the garage beer fridge. That just happened to Oyster City Mangrove Pale Ale with Natural Mango Flavors. This one I didn’t buy, though. My daughter brought me back an assortment of Oyster City beers last July when she vacationed in Destin.

Oyster City, of Lakeland, Florida says:

CLASSIC PALE ALE WITH MALTY BODY, HOPPED WITH CENTENNIAL AND CASCADE. FERMENTED WITH MANGOS REMINISCENT OF HEAVENLY DAYS SPENT IN TROPICAL CLIMES. HAMMOCK NOT INCLUDED!

Apparently they feel so strongly about this they shout it out loud. Where is KISS when you need them?

Oyster City Mangrove Pale Ale with Natural Mango Flavors has an alcohol content of 8.2% by volume and ran $9.99 a six-pack in Destin when my daughter visited. My can is marked CANNED ON 02/24/20, my daughter bought it and delivered it in July, and I drank it on March 4^th, 2021. As I sipped, I remarked that this might make a pleasant beach beer, but that was before I noticed the alcohol content. Fruit beers such as this are generally lower in alcohol content; several of these at 8.2% and I am not so sure I would want to be near the water, or in the hot sun for that matter. Classic pale ales do not have this much alcohol, either. Be that as it may, I did enjoy the beer.

Oyster City Mangrove Pale Ale with Natural Mango Flavors pours to a hazy orange color with a thick fluffy white head and a very fruity mango nose. Taking a sip, the beer is light to medium in body, hints at caramel, is tart wheaty, and bursts with fresh mango fruit flavor. It is well balanced in the finish though and not at all cloying. Perhaps the alcohol helps dry it out.

This is definitely not your average pale ale, or fruit beer for that matter. I liked it, and I would certainly drink it again.  

And remember, try a new beer today, and drink outside the box.
