After my stop at Brew Moon I swung by the Sam Adams Brewery in Jamaica Plains but alas no one was there, so I headed off to Natick and a stop at Owen O'Leary's. This brewpub is located adjacent to a Hampton Inn, and it was packed (it was a Friday night). Unfortunately, the crowd didn't seem to be there for the house beers, as most of those I saw were drinking bottles of Bud, Miller, Coors. etc. These beers were available on draft as well, as were Post Road Ale, Sam Adams Winter Lager, and Guinness. There were four house beers available, a Golden, ESB, Light, and Irish Red. There wasn't much to distinguish one from the other, and I wouldn't have stayed there as long as I did had I not had the good fortune to sit next to a gentleman from Quebec. We struck up a good conversation in a jumble of English and French about beer (he was telling me about a beer named "8" from northern Quebec brewed with glacial water) and separatism. I had intended to drop by the nearby John Harvard's in Framingham but time would not allow, will have to save that one for next time I'm in the area, I doubt I'll be dropping by Owen O'Leary's again.
From the brewery website:
Floor malted English pale malt and a blend of Crystal malts give this beer its rich flavor and deep ruby color. North American hops are added to bring the malt into balance and lend a subtle citrus aroma.
6.3% ABV 20.3 IBU’s
And remember, try a new beer today, and drink outside the box.
