Doh! I’m slapping myself on the forehead for this one. There I was at the bar at Harrah’s Valley River Casino, ready to order a beer, and I spied Oskar Blues Tropical Can O Bliss IPA. What ho! This was a new and interesting development. I had never heard of this beer, but you can’t go wrong with Oskar Blues. My faux pas, you see, was in not taking a picture of the really cool tap handle. C’est la vie. We shall survive.
Anyway, a little research dug up some info from Oskar Blues Twitter feed, dated November 7th of 2018:
Can-O- Bliss Tropical IPA - a hopped up, tropical-fruit-packed island experience. Available on draft, in select markets and coming to a can near you in January.
So, draft only right now, but coming soon to a can near you. Oskar Blues has released at least one other beer as a “Can O Bliss”, a hazy IPA, though I never saw that one. Can-O- Bliss Tropical IPA has an alcohol content of 7.2% by volume and 68 IBUs according to Untappd. I paid $4.67 for a draft pint at Harrah’s.
I could smell the juicy fruits already when the bartender put the cup of Oskar Blues Tropical Can O Bliss IPA in front of me. Passion fruit, grapefruit and mango were all evident in the nose, and the beer was hazy orange in color with a thick head of foam. Taking a sip, I got smooth medium malt, more of the tropical fruit and citrus orange and grapefruit in the palate, and a rather bitter minty finish.
Oskar Blues Tropical Can O Bliss IPA is super juicy and a real treat. I’m not sure how you release a beer called Can O Bliss on draft only first. But hey. What is a keg if not a big can anyway?
And remember, try a new beer today, and drink outside the box.
