Odell Brewing! It’s been ages since I’ve had anything from them. In the 90s, their 90 Shilling Ale was legendary, and available in Rhode Island (or was it Massachusetts?). When I left the Ocean State for the Peach State in 2001, I left Odell beers behind as well. About a year ago, though, I got a can of Odell Tree Shaker Imperial Peach IPA from my buddy Dale Roberts. Good stuff!
I wish I had taken notes on the 90 Shilling Ale, but I never did, so this will be my first review of an Odell beer here on Bruguru.com. This is an imperial IPA brewed with peaches, so the jury is out on whether you want to call it an imperial IPA or a fruit beer.
Odell says on the can label:
Brewed with local peaches for a subtle sweetness, this Imperial IPA has roots right here in Colorado. Familiar citrusy hop notes balanced with sweet local peaches give this style a playful little shake.
Odell Tree Shaker Imperial Peach IPA has an alcohol content of 8% by volume with 48 IBUs. This is a limited release beer and Total Wine sells it for $12.99 a six-pack, a bit high. My can is stamped as packaged on 5/17/17 and I drank it on April 18th, 2018.
Odell Tree Shaker Imperial Peach IPA pours to a hazy orange color with a thick fluffy white head of foam and a vibrant nose of peaches and apricots. Taking a sip, the beer has a full body with more of the same fruits, citrusy and then grassy hops and bitterness and warming alcohol in the finish.
Quite tasty indeed, the peach flavors are quite robust and make this more of a fruit beer for me. My can has a little age on it and to be fair the hops may have faded a little, but the beer is no less delicious for that. A sipper at 8%, I will be on the lookout for this one to try it younger and compare to my can.
And remember, try a new beer today, and drink outside the box.
