Acca Dacca! What the hell is that? I’m sure I don’t know. Well, I kind of know. I know it’s a beer from Atlanta’s new New Realm brewing: Acca Dacca Ale, New Realm’s take on an Australian Sparkling Ale ala Cooper’s Sparkling Ale. Other than that, though, I had no clue what Acca Dacca meant.
Bing to the rescue! Apparently Acca Dacca is an Australian cover band of an Australian band, which seems apropos for an Australian style beer. Acca Dacca was the very first beer I tried from New Realm and I enjoyed it at Taco Mac in Canton (where else?). More New Realm was soon to come as I had a crowler of their Commish Belgian Golden Ale at home and would visit the brewery in 9 days.
There is no information on this beer on the New Realm website, but Taco Mac says:
Come to Taco Mac for a SPECIAL BEER RELEASE from Atlanta's newest brewery - New Realm Brewing! Acca Dacca is a light crisp golden ale inspired by the Sparkling Ales of Australia, all malt, with hints of exotic tropical fruit hop aromas.
New Realm Acca Dacca Ale has an alcohol content of 5.3% by volume with 20 IBUs according to Taco Mac. I paid $6.12 for a 23-ounce mug there. All of the check ins I saw on Untappd were at Taco Mac, so assuming this is an exclusive beer for them.
My mug of New Realm Acca Dacca Ale arrived a beautiful golden color with a moderate head of creamy foam and soft malt and melon in the nose. Taking a sip, I got firm toasty malt in the palate with a gently herbal and quite bitter hop finish. This is really an excellent golden ale/amber ale. I must confess I haven’t had a Cooper’s in a while to make the comparison, and it didn’t seem to “sparkle” as much with carbonation as that beer does. Still and all on its own merits this is one tasty brew.
And remember, try a new beer today, and drink outside the box.
