I gotta tell you, I really think brewers are starting to run out of names for their beers. Witness New Holland Tangerine Space Machine New England-Style India Pale Ale. Seriously? I get the tangerine bit; the beer is made with them. But space machine? Where does that come from? Anyway, the beer is in the currently outrageously popular New England IPA style. Grab ‘em while they last. Remember Session IPAs? Yeah, everybody though they would be all the rage forever, too.

New Holland beers are featured as beer of the month at Taco Mac for November, 2018. That means you get a free logo glass with a purchase on Thursday nights. While supplies last, of course.

New Holland says:

There once lived a bitter soul, with a fruitful life as his goal, hopped in his space machine, went to New England to find his queen, came back... in a haze of tangerine.

I’m not even going to try to interpret that. They do add that the beer was first offered in 2017 and is brewed with Galaxy and Citra hops. It has an alcohol content of 6.8% by volume with 40 IBUs. Total Wine sells it for $11.99 a six-pack and I paid a whopping $9.66 for a 23-ounce mug at Taco Mac. The free glass helped soften that blow.

My mug of New Holland Tangerine Space Machine arrived a hazy orange color with a moderate head of foam and citrusy tangerine in the nose. Taking a sip, the tangerine is back in the palate, and the beer has a light maltiness with tangerine pulp too, then bitter citrus peel in the finish.

While I enjoyed this beer well enough, the price is ridiculous at $9.66 for my mug. $11.99 seems too high as well in cans. I’m bringing the beer down from 4 stars to 3 ½ as a result. I probably would drink it again in cans, but not as often at this price point. I will say this: it paired perfectly with an order of Taco Mac's delightful Buffalo wings.

And remember, try a new beer today, and drink outside the box.
