Narragansett Del's Mango-Passionfruit Shandy

Well look what I got! A 12-pack of Narragansett Del’s Variety Pack! It was Memorial Day weekend, in the midst of the Covid pandemic, and there I was toying with the idea of getting some beer via curbside pickup from Total Wine. I wanted some Narragansett Lager because I was out, and I got some, but look and behold when I went to search the Del’s Variety pack came up, too. I had not expe3cted to see that here in Georgia, so in the cart it went.

You get 4 cans each of 3 different beers:

Naragansett Del’s Lemon Shandy

Narragansett Watermelon Shandy

Narragansett Del’s Mango-Passionfruit Shandy

It is the Narragansett Del’s Mango-Passionfruit Shandy I am here to talk about today. I grew up on Del’s Lemonade in Rhode Island, which is where most of their locations are. They do have more than a few stores in Massachusetts as well, one in Connecticut, and these days you can even find them in both Carolinas, Florida, and Las Vegas. How about one in Georgia, Del’s?

I don’t recall a Mango-Passionfruit frozen beverage when I lived in Rhode Island, but that was almost 20 years ago. Perhaps they have one today; they definitely offered a watermelon variety that I enjoyed. Regardless, Narragansett brings you the refreshing tropical flavors of Mango and Passionfruit in this sampler.

They say:

The Del’s Mango-Passionfruit Shandy is a crisp, tropical treat that is currently only available in the Del’s Shandy Variet (SIC) Pack alongside Del’s Lemon and Del’s Watermelon Shandies. It combines Narragansett’s famous Lager with natural mango and passionfruit flavors for a shandy experience as refreshingly different as a Rhode Island Sunset.

Narragansett Del’s Mango-Passionfruit Shandy has an alcohol content of 4.7% by volume and I paid $18.99 for my 12-pack of 12-ounce cans at Total Wine.

Narragansett Del’s Mango-Passionfruit Shandy pours to a bright orange jello color with a thick head formation that fades almost as quickly as it forms. The nose is a tropical fruit salad of mango and passion fruit, and you get both of those in the palate on top of a light crisp malt body. The tropical fruits are the whole shebang here folks, but the beer finishes balanced and not cloyingly sweet.

If fruit beers are not your thing, this beer is not for you. I enjoyed it myself, out on the patio on a hot summer evening of temperature 88 degrees. The refreshing tropical fruit was the perfect foil to the July climate here in Georgia.

And remember, try a new beer today, and drink outside the box.
