My wife, the very beautiful Barbara Staradumsky, has told me that when she was a teenager, she had a friend named Suzie. Suzie's nickname was "Suzie MoonPie". Suzie, if you are out there, know this: your beer has arrived. That’s right, I’m talking about MoonPie Chocolate MoonPie Stout from the Naked River Brewing Company of Chattanooga, Tennessee. They say you can’t have your cake and eat it, too, but I say you can eat your Moonpie, and drink it, too.

If you don’t already know, MoonPies are graham cracker cookies with marshmallow filling, all covered in chocolate. They date back to 1917, and were and are produced by Chattanooga Bakery. So, a MoonPie stout from a Chattanooga brewery seems like a marriage made in heaven-or at the very least, Tennessee.

Naked River says about the beer on the label:

The brew that hung the moon! This incredibly rich, smooth, and creamy stout is brewed with fresh-baked MoonPies in collaboration with MoonPie®, an All-American iconic snack made with pride by Chattanooga Bakery Inc. MoonPie became famous as the "Workingman's Lunch," Now our MoonPie Stout is the "Workingman's Reward."

Naked River MoonPie Chocolate MoonPie Stout is my first beer ever from Naked River. It certainly will not be my last. The beer has an alcohol content of 8.5% by volume with 64 IBUs. My cans are labeled as brewed and packaged by Big Kettle Brewing of Lawrenceville, Georgia. Big Kettle is a targeted contract brewing operation. My cans are stamped PACKAGED ON 12/22/2021 and I paid $17.99 for a 4-pack of pint cans at Total Wine, which I think is a little high. Would not stop me from buying this beer again, though.

Naked River MoonPie Chocolate MoonPie Stout pours to a dark brownish-black (but not opaque) color with a medium head of foam and a nose of soft roast and chocolate. Taking a sip, the beer is medium in body and quite chocolaty. Notes of vanilla run through it (the marshmallow), graham cracker cookie too. The beer finishes chocolaty and slightly sweet.

Naked River MoonPie Chocolate MoonPie Stout delivers the theme confection in an enjoyable sipping beer. A tasty dessert stout that would go well with-what else? A chocolate MoonPie (or maybe even a banana one).
