Here we are again with another great beer from Novato, California’s Moylan’s Brewing Company. This time the beer under consideration is their porter: Chelsea Moylan’s Porter to be exact.
The brewery says this about the beer:
The Irish brewers of Dublin brewed the "Porter Style" until the mid 1970's and we here at Moylan's have decided to revive this classic brew. Chelsea Moylan's Porter is a rich, robust porter cleverly crafted to integrate the aromas and flavors of espresso coffee malt and bitter-sweet chocolate malt. Inspired by our founder's daughter, Chelsea, we hope to begin a new tradition of brewing an American-Irish Style Porter that any black beer lover will enjoy.
There are different kinds of porters, of course. Brown porters tend to be on the mild side, meaning not quite so roasty. Robust porters, more the substyle in which I would classify Chelsea Moylan’s Porter, are bolder, roastier and more flavorful.
Chelsea Moylan’s Porter pours to a jet black color with a thick and creamy tan head formation and a big luscious licorice nose. The body is full with a rich thick mouthfeel and notes of dark chocolate pudding, licorice, roasted barley and a minty grassy herbal aroma in the slightly bitter finish. A great robust porter indeed.
Chelsea Moylan is certainly lucky to have such a tasty beer named after her. Fear not, though: you’re lucky too, to be able to drink a beer named after her. And for just $4.99 a bottle, you'll want to do it on a regular basis, too.
And remember, try a new beer today, and drink outside the box.
