The rumors, then, would appear to be true. I received a survey from Taco Mac some months ago about a redesign and a potential name change. The new name would be “T.Mac”, apparently since the “Taco” part of the name implies a Mexican restaurant connotation to some. Those of us who know and love Taco Mac know the difference, (they do have burritos and tacos but the beer and wings are the highlights here) but I suspect a potential expansion to new areas where folks don’t.
Anyway, check out T.MAC Daddy Porter from Georgia’s Monday Night Brewing.
This may just be the first step on the road to a name change. If you check
out the tap handle, you’ll see the familiar tie shape Monday night uses, and
the equally familiar Taco Mac logo. Or is it? Instead of Taco Mac it says…..T.Mac.
I could live with a name change (though they’ll always be Taco Mac to me).
Just don’t mess with the beer and wings, friends.
Be that as it may, Monday Night is the featured brewery for June of 2014
here. It’s Thursday at 5:00, I’m drinking a T.Mac Daddy Porter and I get a
free glass for my efforts. Taco Mac says this about the beer on their draft
menu:
The people wanted a porter, so we gave them a porter. After an extremely
close public vote, T.MAC Daddy Ale was born. Clocking in at 5.7% and brewed
with Chocolate, Munich and Caramel malts, this Daddy doesn’t drive a
minivan. More like an Aston Martin. Creamy, nutty, with a little bit of
roast, this is one smoooooth Daddy. East Kent Golding hops lend a little bit
of that old country flair, making this an all-around stand-up guy. Or Mac
Daddy, if you will.
Monday Night put this on their website back in March:
This March, you get a chance to change history. Or at least change the
malts and hops we order. We are brewing a limited batch of beer for Taco
Mac‘s Beer of the Month program in June: TMac Daddy. The name has been
chosen. The beer style has not. We couldn’t agree with the Taco Mac folks
and almost got into a slapfight with them, so would appreciate it if you’d
help us decide. We narrowed it down to a Porter, a Single Hop Pale Ale, and
a Belgian Dubbel.
Vote, and help us avoid an awkward slapfight.
Monday
Night T.MAC Daddy Porter, only available here, pours to an almost jet
black color with a medium foamy head and a roasty licorice nose. Taking a
sip I get a medium body just right for a porter, some chocolate pudding,
coffee, licorice, and an herbal minty hop aroma in the finish. The subtle
hop bitterness and more pronounced husky roasted barley bitterness end this
one on a high note.
All in all, not bad for the $5.75 I shelled out. I’d buy it again, whatever
they call this place.
And remember, try a new beer today, and drink outside the box.
