Here comes summer! It’s early May and technically still spring, but the past few days have seen temperatures sour into the low 90s. After a colder than usual April, it seems winter suddenly became summer, with no spring at all. Never fear, for Atlanta’s Monday Night brewery is ready for the warmer climes with I’m on a Boat Golden Ale.
Monday Night is the featured brewery at Taco Mac this month (April), so buying one of the four featured beers on a Thursday night will get you a free logo glass, while supplies last. Golden ales don’t really get a lot of respect from beer geeks, but I see them as sort of the ale versions of pilsners, a bit fruitier but soft or biscuity malty and with a refreshing hop finish. Perfect beers for warm weather.
Monday Night says:
Sit back, relax and cruise. I’m On A Boat is an easy drinking golden ale that’s enjoyable floating on the water, or hanging on shore. A low ABV crusher, I’m On A Boat is brewed with Pilsner malt and wheat for a crisp and clean drinking experience. Finished with Lemondrop hops for just enough bite…but at only 20 IBU’s, you’ll need to keep your cooler fully stocked.
Monday Night I’m on a Boat Golden Ale has an alcohol content of 4.8% by volume and runs $9.49 a six pack in cans at Target. I paid $6.83 for a 23-ounce mug at taco mac, and that came with the aforementioned free glass.
My mug of Monday Night I’m on a Boat Golden Ale arrived a hazy golden color with a light head of foam and crisp biscuit malt in the nose and the palate. The beer offers lightly zesty citric hops and a gently bitter finish. About what I want for the style.
Flavorful, easy-drinking and refreshing. That’s what a golden ale should be, and this one fits the bill. On a boat, or in my backyard, I can imagine whiling away a summer evening with a few of these quite easily.
And remember, try a new beer today, and drink outside the box.
