Domo arigato, Dr. Robot-oh! Emphasis on the “oh”, folks, to separate it from the robot. I’m playing on the Styx song here, of course, as an intro to my thought on Monday Night Dr. Robot Blackberry Lemon Sour. Monday Night beers are featured as beer of the month this April, and I showed up at Taco Mac on a fine early April Wednesday evening with semi-decent weather.
I’ll confess it had not been my plan to go to Taco Mac-at least not directly. No, I was on vacation this week and wanted to go to Canton’s Green Line Brewery first. They are finally able to sell their own beer after being open a few years (at least, I have only now seen them advertise their own beers are pouring). Their website said they were open on Wednesday nights; when I got there, they were closed and the Wednesday hours were crossed off. Disheartened, I merely walked the few miles to Taco Mac, sat out on the patio and the rest of the night was much improved.
Back to Dr. Robot, though. This is a sour fruit beer, a perfect choice for warm spring weather imbibing as I learned sipping it on the patio. It definitely improved my mood.
Monday Night says:
A tart, fruity sour beer. Dr. Robot is as playful as its name. After souring to a delightfully tart level, we add blackberry juice and lemon zest to enhance and balance the flavor. The juice gives this beer a pink hue. The perfect blend of sweet and sour, Dr. Robot is a refreshing year-round sipper.
Ingredients, from the website:
Hops: Cascade
Grain Bill: 2-Row Barley, Wheat
Monday Night Dr. Robot Blackberry Lemon Sour has an alcohol content of 5% by volume and sells for a very reasonable $8.99 a six-pack at Total Wine. I paid $6.25 for a 20-ounce mug at Taco Mac.
My mug of Monday Night Dr. Robot Blackberry Lemon Sour arrived an attractive purple color with a formidable pink frothy head and tart lemon and berries in the nose. Sipping, I got a tart wheat palate with bright berry fruit and bitter citrusy lemon, all leading into a big sour finish.
My friends, this is a tasty brew indeed, a year-round refresher that I highly recommend. It’s a sour for sure (a broad beer style if there ever was one), but the berry and lemon are so prominent it’s more of a fruit beer to me.
And remember, try a new beer today, and drink outside the box.
