November of 2016 finds Atlanta’s Monday Night brewery featured at Taco Mac restaurants, and that means every Thursday night you get a free logo pint glass with purchase of one of the four spotlighted brews (while supplies last). November 3rd found me at the bar sipping on a mug of Monday Night Dad Bod, a beer I had never tried before.
Monday Night Dad Bod is an entry in the brewery’s “Clip On” series of beers, which Monday Night describes as Variations on year-round beers, available for 3-4 months at a time in 6-packs and on draft. That said, I am not aware of any regular Monday Night Beer that Dad Bod is a variation on.
From the label:
Dad Bod isn’t just a beer, it’s a state of mind. Dad Bod means working out just enough to not have to buy new pants, and spending the rest of your time working out your drinking muscles. Our dark saison has a mild nose with hints of espresso and citrus. A peppery flavor gives this down-to-earth beer the edge needed to attract a mate, and nothing more.
The Monday Night website says Dad Bod was first released on 10/27/2016, so I sampled it about a week young. They list the following ingredients on the website:
Simcoe hops
CARAFA, flaked oats, caramel malts, and pilsner malt
Monday Night Dad Bod has an alcohol content of 6% by volume with 20 IBUs. I paid $6 for a 20-ounce mug at Taco Mac, a fair price, and that with a free glass. The beer runs a bit high at $10.99 a six-pack in bottles.
My mug of Monday Night Dad Bod arrived a dark black color with a thick fluffy tan head and dark malts and hints of spice (I get coriander) in the nose. The beer has a light body with more spice and even more roast in the palate, licorice, and a dry pepper finish.
I found this to be a tasty, smooth, easy drinking. Perhaps too easy drinking; a few more of these and I may end up with a dad bod myself.
And remember, try a new beer today, and drink outside the box.
