Pineapple Chi Chi Nitro Golden Ale |

I’ll confess: I had no idea what a Chi Chi was when I ordered a can of Maui Pineapple Chi Chi Nitro Golden Ale. I love Maui brewing and try any of their beers that I can get my hands on, so there it was. It wasn’t until I got the can before me that I read the label and discovered just what a Chi Chi was: This easy drinking nitro golden ale, inspired by a local cocktail the “Chi Chi”, showcases the quintessential flavors of Hawaii. Local pineapple and freshly toasted coconut come together to create a smooth, creamy, island delight. A little Binging revealed that the cocktail Chi Chi uses vodka as its spirits ingredient alone with the aforementioned pineapple and coconut, as well as sugar. Maui Pineapple Chi Chi Nitro Golden Ale has an alcohol content of 4.8% by volume and I paid $3.09 for my can from Craftshack. Total Wine sells it for $13.99 a six-pack, pricey that, though not in Georgia. My can is stamped 121820 (packaging date) and I drank it on April 7th of 2021. There are instructions for serving: For best experience, invert can 3 times serve cold, pour hard at 180 degree angle in 16 ounce glass. I didn’t see this, and I didn’t do this. Well, I did pour it into a pint glass rather vigorously, and I did serve it cold, but I did not invert the can and as a result my sample was not as carbonated as one expects from a nitro beer. Maui Pineapple Chi Chi Nitro Golden Ale pours to a hazy golden color and an inviting nose of fresh pineapple and a hint of coconut. Taking a sip, the beer is medium in body and bursts with juicy pineapple notes that leap right out at you. Soft, creamy coconut comes in too, and adds a pina colada note, especially in the sweet finish. And that finish was a bit too sweet for me, but I have to say I love the pineapple and coconut one-two punch. I would buy it again (though not at $13.99 a six-pack), and I promise, next time I will follow instructions more fully.
And remember, try a new beer today, and drink outside the box. *Pricing data accurate at time of review or latest update. For reference only, based on actual price paid by reviewer. (B)=Bottled (D)=Draft |
