Mango Stickee Rice IPA

Review Date 1/13/2026 By John Staradumsky
It’s been a few years now since the wife and I traveled to Hawaii, Maui specifically. That was one of the best trips of our lives, and one of the best parts for me was a visit to Maui Brewing Company. I’ve loved the brewery ever since, and although I can’t readily get back there, these days I am lucky that Maui comes to see me.
Such was the case on a recent trip with my sons to my local Taco Mac to see the New England Patriots beat the Los Angeles Chargers in a wild card round NFL playoff game. As I perused the draft list, I found Maui Mango Stickee Rice IPA listed and ordered it right up as the first beer of the night. I mean, it’s Maui, and Mango Stickee Rice IPA just sounds like the perfect beer to get your game night going.
I wasn’t wrong about the latter, although as we shall see I definitely had concerns about calling this beer an IPA. As I sipped, I noted the dearth of hop bitterness, which is prerequisite in an IPA. Here’s how Maui describes the beer:
India Pale Ale brewed with Mango, Rice, and Coconut
They further modify as follows:
Flavor: Sweet and Fruity with Little to No Perceived Bitterness
This of course does not sound like an IPA to me. They do provide the hops used to brew the beer: Huell Melon, Citra, Floral.
Maui Mango Stickee Rice IPA has an alcohol content of 6.2% by volume with 15 IBUs and I paid $8.96 for my 23-ounce mug at Taco Mac. Unlike Maui flagship beers like Coconut Hiwa and Pineapple Mana which are brewed under contract in Colorado for the continental United States, Mango Stickee Rice IPA is imported from Hawaii. Maui claims their specialty beers are indeed brewed on the island of Maui. You will pay for that, however, as Maui Mango Stickee Rice IPA sells at Total Wine here in Georgia for $13.49, and that for 4 12-ounce cans instead of 6. This beer is a seasonal available July through December, although I had my mug in early July.
My mug of Maui Mango Stickee Rice IPA arrived a hazy orange amber color with a light fluffy head and a nose of sweet mango fruit. Taking a sip the beer is medium in body and lightened from the rice. It bursts with sweet mango and other tropical fruit (pineapple) from the hops. It’s a little creamy from the rice and coconut though I did not get an abundance of coconut flavor. The beer finishes sweet and the mango fruit again pops here; it is not at all bitter, and that is a problem I think for an IPA.
I will ignore Maui’s classification as India Pale Ale and call it a fruit beer and it’s tasty indeed that way indeed. I would certainly drink it again.
Glad I tried it?

Would I rebuy it??
