Martha's Octoberfest is a wonderful example of the Vienna/Maerzen style. Dark amber in color, the beer is lightly carbonated with a sweet, malty nose. The Munich malt is very apparent in the palate, giving the beer a toasty, nutty, light-molasses flavor comparable to that found in classic examples of the style from Paulaner or Spaten. This delicious beer is currently available only at the brewery, on draught and in growlers to go. Highly recommended!
The weizenbock was a tough act to follow, but the Octoberfest was certainly up to the task. John had given me a hint as to the quality of this beer, and he was absolutely correct. Rich, toasty, and screaming Munich malt, this was the best domestic Ofest I've yet to taste. I purchased a growler to take home with me.
And remember, try a new beer today, and drink outside the box.
