I'm trouble
Yeah trouble now
I'm trouble y'all
I disturb my town
I'm trouble
Yeah trouble now

I got trouble in my town-Trouble by P!nk
Damned if that Pink song doesn’t pop into my head every time I look at a bottle of Trouble Honey India Pale Ale from Cleveland’s Market Garden brewery. OK, so it’s not so bad since I like the song, but still. Trouble is the first in the Nano series of beers from Market Garden.
From the website:
From deep in the brewmaster’s recipe archive comes this blend of honey and hops, which yields a strong, bittersweet elixir that deserves its name. The tasting notes from the very first batch, made more than 20 years ago, proclaim, ” Mmm.. that tastes like trouble!”
Speaking of Trouble, I may be in some myself. My bottle of Market Garden Trouble Honey India Pale Ale has a best by date of 11/28/16 on it, and I drank it on August 6th of 2017. But, hey, it’s a double IPA of 8% by volume, and it aged just fine constantly refrigerated in my garage beer fridge. Please note that for posterity.
Market Garden Honey India Pale Ale pours to a bright orange to honey color with a thick foamy head and a bright citrus nose. Taking a sip, the beer is chewy with caramel malt at first, then becomes resiny with toasty honey notes in the palate, with big citrus rind grapefruit and a warming alcohol/dry bitter grassy finish. This one has held up very nicely indeed over the 8 months since I got it from Dave Coulter.
Wonderful friends, the honey adds body and smoothness, and herbal, perfumey hops permeate too. Now I just have to wonder if the next Nano beer will be named So What?
And remember, try a new beer today, and drink outside the box.
