Cleveland’s Market Garden brewery is making progress! Like, literally, I mean. They’re making Progress Pilsner, a tasty German pilsner that is as authentic as it is delicious. Indeed, I didn’t need Market Garden to tell me this is a German pilsner. The biscuity malt and sharp grassy hops did all the talking as soon as I took my first sip.
From the label:
Great American Beer Festival Award Winning Brew! Inspired by the Pilsners of the Rhine region, this lager is a tribute to the spicy, crisp and clean character of German noble hops and has just the right malt body to balance. Named aptly for the Cleveland slogan “Progress & Prosperity”.
Market Garden Progress Pilsner has an alcohol content of 5.5% by volume.
Market Garden Progress Pilsner pours to a hazy golden color with a thick creamy head of foam and a fresh biscuit malty nose with hints of grassy hops. Taking a sip, the beer has plenty of crisp, fresh biscuity malt flavor up front, just what I want in a pilsner. The hopping is assertive and quickly permeates, and the beer finishes long dry and quite grassy bitter. A very nice German-style pilsner indeed, and a beer I wish I could get here in Georgia.
By the way, in keeping with the Cleveland motto of Progress and Prosperity, I’ll add that Market garden also brews up a fine German-style wheat beer named Prosperity. Meaning you can have your Progress & Prosperity-and drink them, too.
And remember, try a new beer today, and drink outside the box.
