Lost Coast Brewery! It’s been too long since I’ve had your beer! As far as I can recall, it’s been 20 years, drinking a Winterbraun back in 1998. Lost Coast beers were available in Rhode Island (or maybe Massachusetts) then, but I’ve never seen them in Georgia since I moved here in 2001. That changes recently, when I saw their beers at Target in cans and actually drank one on tap at Taco Mac.
That draft beer to which I refer was Lost Coast Tangerine Wheat. I enjoyed it on a warm May evening and it fit the bill for a refreshing warm weather quencher. Which is, for me, what fruit beers are ideally suited for.
Lost Coast says:
Let’s
just put it this way: If you’re ever going to have an impromptu pool party
at a complete stranger’s house, this is the beer you’ll want to be swigging
when you get caught. Brewed with the perfect balance of wheat and crystal
malts, our Tangerine Wheat delivers a perfectly crisp finish for those hot
summer days. It’s got that classic Lost Coast wheat flavor, with a kick of
citrus to help jump-start the party.
Lost Coast Tangerine Wheat has an alcohol content of 5.5% by volume. The beer is reasonable enough in price at $8.99 for a six-pack of cans at Total Wine, and I paid $5.75 for a 23-ounce mug at Taco Mac.
That mug of Lost Coast Tangerine Wheat arrived bright orange in color with a thick white foamy head and a nose bursting with tangerine fruit. There’s plenty of it in the palate too with a bit of crackery wheat beneath. The beer is slightly sweet and finishes that way, too.
I think Lost Coast Tangerine Wheat could definitely benefit from more bitterness, but as it is it was refreshing enough on the aforementioned hot day.
And remember, try a new beer today, and drink outside the box.
