Long Trail Harvest Vermont Maple Ale

One thing is for sure: Long Trail Brewing of Bridgewater Corners, Vermont knows how to make malty brown ales. Witness Long Trail Ale, a German style Altbier, which is not all that different from an American brown ale. American browns are known for their deep, lightly chocolaty maltiness and robust hop character, and Altbiers are as well.

Now comes the plaintiff with another wonderfully malty Long Trail brown ale: Long Trail Harvest Vermont Maple Ale. This is the first new beer I have had from Long Trail in a, well, long time. I got it from Half Time Beverage, and enjoyed it during the Patriots-Ravens game on September 25th of 2022.

Long Trail Harvest Vermont Maple Ale has an alcohol content of 4.4% by volume with 18 IBUs. I paid $2.99 for my bottle from Half Time, and you can get the beer from Total Wine in New England for $11.49 the six-pack bottles. My bottle is stamped PKG 08/22/22.

Long Trail says:

We mark the end of summer with the release our seasonal brown ale, Harvest. Vermont maple syrup added during the brewing process yields a lasting sweetness on the palate that’s guaranteed to warm your soul alongside the rich, chocolate profile and earthy hop character of this classic American brown ale.

And I say:

Long Trail Harvest Vermont Maple Ale pours to a dark mahogany color with a thick fluffy tan head and a luscious nose of brown sugar and maple. Taking a sip, the beer is medium bodied and malty with more of the brown sugar and maple the nose promised. Caramel and toffee are present, and with the dark nutty malt the brown sugar suggests brown bread. Finishes balanced to slightly sweet with maple notes at the last. The low ABV makes it quaffable, too.

This is a really delicious beer, and the maple here makes this a spiced ale in style. You could call it a brown ale and not be wrong, too. However you peg it, Long Trail Harvest Vermont Maple Ale is a beautiful malty delight, and a beer that should not be missed.

Glad I tried it?  T

Would I rebuy it??
