Did you know that Lonerider Brewing of Raleigh, North Carolina has two amber ales? They do. And did you further know that these are both seasonal beers, part of their Outlawed series, released around the same time of year? They are. The first of the two is the one I am drinking tonight, Lonerider Eve Amber Ale. The other is a bigger, bolder brew called Lonerider Red Spur Amber Ale, and I enjoyed both of them recently as featured brewery beers at Taco Mac.
It seemed curious to me that Lonerider would offer these two beers so close together, but upon sampling the two it becomes clear they are indeed quite different. In fact, Eve Amber Ale seems to suffer in comparison with the much more flavorful Red Spur, though to be fair if you’re looking for a sessionable, easy drinking beer Eve is your girl.
Personally, if I were going to name an amber ale after a woman, I’d probably call it Amber. Amber amber ale. Catchy, no? Anyway, here’s what Lonerider says about Eve Amber on their website:
As honest as a midsummer evening. Eve represents our session Amber Ale, a refreshing beer that balances sweet Pilsner and Crystal malts with citrusy and earthy hops.
Lonerider Eve Amber Ale has an alcohol content of 4.2% by volume and I paid $6 for a 20-ounce mug at Taco Mac.
So, without further ado, let’s jump into the beer, shall we?
My 20-ounce mug of Lonerider Eve Amber Ale arrived a light reddish color with a medium sized fluffy head and soft malty, lightly nutty nose with caramel aromas to boot. Partner. Tasking a sip, I get a medium, body, more light nutty malt notes, caramel, light chocolate as it warms, and stewed malt notes too. A drying bitter hop finish makes it quaffable and moreish.
Quite a tasty beer overall, though I do prefer the more robust Red Spur to be honest. That would not stop me from enjoying this one, though, as I am sure I will again.
And remember, try a new beer today, and drink outside the box.
