Hey there beer lovers! Are you ready for a little something extra? I know I am. Specifically, Lagunitas Little Sumpin’ Extra! Ale. This is the final installment in the Little Sumpin’ trilogy that I’ve tried, the other two installments being Lagunitas Little Sumpin’ Sumpin’ Ale and Lagunitas Little Sumpin’ Wild Ale. Of the three, Little Sumpin’ Extra is the biggest and my personal favorite.
I
saw Lagunitas Little Sumpin’ Extra on the draft menu at Taco Mac and ordered
up a glass. The menu denoted an 11-ounce pour which was fine by me, but my
server arrived with a full 23-ounce mug of this monster. Luckily, I was not
driving. Lyft was. Mass quantities of Imperial IPAs do not go well with
driving.
From the website:
Light in color, but huge in flavor and satisfaction.
The big sister of the Little Sumpin’ Sumpin’ Ale. Lots of wheat for a curious malt complexity and leaving it light in color, but huge in flavor and satisfaction.
It's 50% malted barley and 50% wheatly-esque-ish-ness. It's bigger, badder, and bolder. Cheers!
Lagunitas Little Sumpin’ Extra has an alcohol content of 8.7% by volume with 73 IBUs. I paid just $5.75 for my mug at Taco Mac and it runs $10.99 in six-packs.
My mug of Lagunitas Little Sumpin’ Extra! Ale arrived a pale straw color with a thick fluffy head and like, amazing grapefruit rind in the nose. Taking a sip, I get a chewy full caramel malt body with lighter notes of wheat, sticky pine tar resin and grapefruit peel citrus all leading into a very long dry, very dry bitter finish.
I loved this, it’s the kind of beer I think of when I think “Lagunitas”. I’ll be back for more and see a six-pack in my future. Lagunitas Little Sumpin’ Extra is a summer seasonal, though, so if you want some too (and you do), best to hurry before it’s gone.
And remember, try a new beer today, and drink outside the box.
