Hazicus Maximus Hazy IPA

Review Date 4/8/2026 By John Staradumsky
What’s up with 9% ABV beers packaged in 19.2-ounce cans? I’m sure I don’t know, but I am seeing a lot of them. In the recent past, I’ve bought Fiddlehead Imperial IPA, Sweetwater G13 Dank Double Hazy IPA, Sweetwater Big Trip Double IPA, Deschutes Royal Fresh Imperial IPA, Samuel Adams Cherry Bomb all at 9% ABV and all in 19.2-ounce cans. I also purchased New Belgium Voodoo Ranger Fruit Force and Lawson’s Epic Sip in the same size cans; these clock in at 9.5% by volume.
Now, you can add another beer to that list: Lagunitas Hazicus Maximus Hazy IPA, a hazy juicy version of Lagunitas classic Maximus Colossal IPA. My can says the beer has notes of grapefruit terpenes, and also says:
And so it was written through the fog another victor emerged-all hail the lord of haze.
On the brewery webpage for Hazicus Maximus:
Colossal Juiciness. Colossal Haze. Colossally Colossal.
A new victor emerges from the haze – Behold! Hazicus Maximus, a hazier, juicier, danker double IPA. A testament to its lineage of Maximus, First of His Name, the time has come to expand the empire of colossal IPAs. Hazicus conquers all rivals with juicy grapefruit dankness and balanced smoothness. Brewed for the bold who aren’t afraid to blaze a new trail…For the hop heads!
I paid $2.57 for my can of Lagunitas Hazicus Maximus Hazy IPA and if you know of a better beer deal than that, tell me about it, and I’ll buy it. My can is stamped 100725 on the bottom which I am sure is the canning date. This beer has 42 IBUs.
Lagunitas Hazicus Maximus Hazy IPA pours to a hazy yellow orange color with a thick fluffy white head and a robust citrus nose that screams grapefruit, pink grapefruit! There are hints of mango and pineapple (more of that), then tangerine and pink grapefruit pith and peel. The beer finishes gently sweet and I would like more bitterness really, but I am just loving the pink grapefruit vibes here. Some resiny pine pops in the finish, too, those terpenes at work for you.
Dangerously drinkable, Lagunitas Hazicus Maximus Hazy IPA does not seem as strong as it’s 9% makes it. I enjoyed it, and you know I would certainly drink it again. Four stars for style, with an extra half star tacked on for pure hedonistic enjoyment and bargain basement price.
Glad I tried it?

Would I rebuy it??
