Seasick Crocodile Sour Ale with Cranberries, Ginger, Cinnamon, and Nutmeg

You're a vile one, Mr. Grinch.

You have termites in your smile,

You have all the tender sweetness of a seasick crocodile,

Mr Grinch.

Given the choice between the two of you,

I'd take the seasick crocodile.

Oh look! Prairie Artisan Ales has a second Christmas beer: Seasick Crocodile Sour Ale with Cranberries, Ginger, Cinnamon and Nutmeg. This one is a more recent addition than their classic Christmas Bomb!. I can only find reference to Prairie Seasick Crocodile on the Prairie Facebook page from 2018, and that was draft only. I can say that I have never seen the beer before. When I saw it at Total Wine, a 4-pack went straight into my cart.

Prairie Artisan Ales Seasick Crocodile Sour Ale with Cranberries, Ginger, Cinnamon and Nutmeg has an alcohol content of 6.3% by volume. That makes it a much easier drinking beer than Christmas Bomb!, which is more of a sipper. It’s also easier on the wallet at $10.99 for a 4-pack in cans.

Prairie Artisan Ales Seasick Crocodile Sour Ale with Cranberries, Ginger, Cinnamon and Nutmeg pours to a hazy pink color with a medium head of foam and a nose with a hint of tart cranberry and lots of spicy cinnamon. Sediment of spice appeared in the bottom of my glass. Taking a sip, the tart cranberry accents the light crackery body, but the cinnamon again really pokes through, and a hint of the ginger. The nutmeg shows up in the finish and dries the beer nicely.

I loved this! A wonderful mix of spice and tart cranberry, and my glass  emptied way too fast! How to peg it? I’ll call it a sour, though the sourness here is not really puckering. You could call it a fruit beer with the delightful cranberry notes, or a spiced ale with the strong cinnamon, and not be wrong.

Oh, and, one other thing. Given the choice of the two of them, I, too, would take the Seasick Crocodile.

And remember, try a new beer today, and drink outside the box.
