Bell's Porter is bottle conditioned. It took a good swirl
to get all of the yeast from the bottom of the bottle, but when I finally
did I was staring at a densely packed head of foam atop a rich black brew.
The nose is good and roasty here with a considerable sweetness and a touch
of licorice. I take a sip. Wow. Very coffeeish. Smooth. Roasty and sweet, as
in the nose.Chocolate. Licorice. Chicory. Mildly bitter finish. Somewhat
reminiscent of the Kalamazoo stout, but toned down a bit. A wonderful beer
indeed! One of these days, I'm going to Kalamazoo.
And remember, try a new beer today, and drink outside the box.
