Say there beer lover, have you ever like, tried a beer once and liked it but then tried it again and liked it even more? That happened to me recently with Jekyll Southern Juice, a new India Pale Ale from this Alpharetta, Georgia brewer. Jekyll already has an IPA, Hop Dang Diggity, that’s very good in its own right, but these days every brewery has to have at least three or four of them, if not a million. Anyway, I first tried Jekyll Southern Juice at Taco Mac on January 26^th and really enjoyed it.

I didn’t take any notes on it, though, because I was kind of busy chatting with the guy next to me. Sometimes I think good old fashioned bar conversations are a thing of the past as people are more apt to be poring over their phones than engaged in conversation. No worries, Stout’s Growlers brought in a keg of Jekyll Southern Juice and I brought home a 32-ounce growler to enjoy.

IPA with a sensational experience in mind from the start. It is brewed with oats and wheat for a unique malt profile built to let the hops be the star of the show. We use huge additions of Citra and Simcoe hops for a juicy and aromatic ride. Southern Juice is packaged unfiltered to deliver a hazy, hoppy, and distinctive finish.

Jekyll Southern Juice has an alcohol content of 6.3% by volume with 65 IBUs. This is a year-round selection for which I paid $6.50 for a 20-ounce mug at Taco Mac and $9.25 for my growler at Stout’s. Total Wine has it for $10.99 a six-pack in cans. It is a bit pricey, the only downside I’ve found so far.

Jekyll Southern Juice pours to a bright orange amber color with a thick foamy head and a big citrus and tropical fruit nose. Taking a sip, the beer has a light maltiness up front followed by hints of passion fruit but, and to my delight, lots more bitter citrusy grapefruit rind. I get lemons here, too. The beer is resiny too as it progresses, and I love the classic resin and grapefruit with hints of juicy tropical fruit. Who says you can’t have the best of both worlds? Certainly not Jekyll.

I’ve already enjoyed this on two separate occasions since its recent introduction to the beer world. Here’s hoping it is better yet still on try number three.
