March is here, and with it the promise of spring, warmer weather, and outdoor activities. More importantly, a new month means a new featured beer at Taco Mac, and this month it’s the local Jekyll brewery from Alpharetta, Georgia. That means at least four featured beers with glass giveaways every Thursday night. Week two (Thursday March 10th) first found me sipping a Jekyll Kinship Belgian Golden Ale. That one did not really impress me unfortunately, but I did order a second beer of the month: Jekyll Fixin' To SIPA Session IPA.
OK, to be completely honest, my daughter ordered the Fixin' To SIPA, not me. She really only wanted the glass, though, so I ended up drinking the beer. Surprise! I liked it, too, even though I'm generally not a fan of "session IPAs", which are really American Pale Ales if you ask me. They're really neither session beers or IPAs after all.
From the Jekyll Website:
An easy drinking session IPA brewed primarily with Equinox hops. It casually brings the aromatics and flavors of papaya, melon and green pepper thanks to mostly late-addition hop dosing. Bitterness is aggressive, but is a late finish.
Jekyll Fixin' To SIPA Session IPA has an alcohol content of 4.9% by volume with 48 IBUs. I paid $6.50 for my daughter's pint (dad buys of course) and that came with a free logo glass. This appears to be a year-round addition to the Jekyll lineup.
That glass of Jekyll Fixin' To SIPA Session IPA arrived a light orange amber in color with a heady melon and passion fruit nose. Taking a sip I get a thin malty body, light tropical fruit and then some resin and grapefruit rind, with quite a bitter finish. As these beers go and compared to others in the "style", I found this one quite good.
And remember, try a new beer today, and drink outside the box.
