From the darkness came a light, offering warmth and compassion from the cold night. Nestled in the palms of the curious adventurer, Lanthrone relinquishes complexities that dance in the twilight like sparks from the scorching of oaken barrels. Illumination of ones senses culminate in vanilla, spice, coconut, caramel, and cherry glow. An imperial amber ale brewed with numerous caramel malts, Munich malt, and oats; aged for 13 months in bourbon barrels.
OK, so, normally when I do this I tell you some stuff, then let the brewery tell you some stuff, and then tell you some more stuff. With Jackie O’s Lanthrone Imperial Amber Ale Aged in Bourbon Barrels, though, I thought I would let Jackie O’s speak first. You know. Just to throw you a curve ball.
Jackie O’s does not say much about their beers on their website; I got the above from the label. The say they age the beer for 13 months in bourbon barrels; I aged it a few years more in my beer fridge. It’s 11% alcohol by volume after all. It can take it.
Jackie O’s Lanthrone Imperial Amber Ale Aged in Bourbon Barrels pours to a murky brownish amber color with a medium head of tan foam and a sinfully rich nose of bourbon and toasted oak. Taking a sip, the beer is full of rich caramel malt in the palate, sinfully smooth and rich in body, deeply infused with boozy bourbon, dark fruity raisin, vanilla, and woody notes. The beer finishes warm with alcohol.
Very tasty, so smooth and drinkable, complex and I love the rich caramel maltiness that is nigh barleywineish. I wish I had another, because this is just delightful.
And remember, try a new beer today, and drink outside the box.
