Surprise! Hoppin’ Frog Infusion A Coffee Porter wasn’t quite what I thought it would be. I saw a single and picked it up in Tennessee, expecting a coffee porter (duh), but when I arrived home I got more than I bargained for.
Swirls of heavenly chocolate and peanut butter flavors surround your senses, as you enjoy this wonderful maze of complexity that is "Infusion A". The first of our Tower Tuesdays Series, this robust coffee porter is a great example of the eye-opening flavors we have developed with our Tuesday infusions. Taste the results of our research, we truly are developing better beer through knowledge.
Peanut butter? Certainly, I’ve had peanut butter beers before. I just wasn’t expecting that here. But hey, Hoppin’ Frog rarely does anything less than grand, so it was all good.
Hoppin’ Frog Infusion A Coffee Porter is an entry in the brewery’s Tower Tuesday series. The beer has an alcohol content of 6.2% by volume with 26 IBUs. I lost my receipt so don’t know what I paid for the can, but Total Wine sells it for $13.49 in bomber bottles, a bit high I think.
Hoppin’ Frog Infusion A Coffee Porter pours to a jet-black color with a medium head of creamy tan foam and a nose bursting with…peanut butter? That’s what I got! Reviewing the can a little more closely, I found the reason why: “Swirls of heavenly chocolate and peanut butter” are mentioned on the label. Taking a sip, I get a smooth beer medium in body with layers of chocolate, peanut butter, and black coffee leading into a pleasantly bitter roasty finish.
Quite nice indeed, if a little pricey, but the flavors are all well-represented here.
And remember, try a new beer today, and drink outside the box.
