Konkey Dong! Now there’s a beer I wanted to try! It’s brewed by Hoof Hearted Brewing of Marengo, Ohio, and they actually make a number of variations of Konkey Dong. The name is derived from the classic arcade game, Donkey Kong, of course, which I used to love playing. Finally, I saw one of these beers available on Half Time, and I bought it.

The one I got was Konkey Dong 4 Up Evolutions Aquatic Ape Theory Triple India Pale Ale. I have had Hoof Hearted beers before and they were good, so I knew this was going to be good, too. I was not mistaken. This is a triple hazy New England style IPA, in case you were wondering.

On their website, Hoof Hearted calls this a Quadruple Dry-Hopped Triple IPA brewed with Citra, Nectaron, El Dorado & Motueka Hops.

Hoof Hearted Konkey Dong 4 Up Evoltions Aquatic Ape Theory Triple India Pale Ale has an alcohol content of 9.5% by volume. I can’t find what I paid for this beer from Half Time but Total Wine sells it for $22.99 the 4-pack of pint cans in Ballston, Virginia.

Hoof Hearted Konkey Dong 4 Up Evolutions Aquatic Ape Theory Triple India Pale Ale pours to a very cloudy hazy yellow color with a thick uneven head of foam and a nose of silky oats and juicy citrus. Taking a sip, the beer is medium in body, perhaps a little fuller than these beers usually run. It’s smooth and pasty in the palate from the oats, and bursts with juicy citrus and pineapple. I get orange juice, tangerine, and a hint of grapefruit, too and a more than subtle bitter finish.

Just how I like these beers folks, I would give it 4.5 stars to style and hedonistically, taking a half star back for the high price.
