The Eurocup is in full swing, and Taco Mac has a great promotion to celebrate. Classic European beers are being featured, and if you order one up while watching the game you’ll get a free pint glass that features the logos of all four beers and the Eurocup itself. Here I am watching and rooting for Germany, so a mug of Hofbrauhaus Munchner Weisse seemed just the thing.
Hofbrauhaus is, of course, one of the original Munich brewers and one of the few that can really and truly make an Oktoberfest beer. They operate restaurant/beer hall locations in the United States as well in major cities like Las Vegas, Cleveland Chicago, and Pittsburgh. They are purveyors of wonderfully authentic German beers.
From the website:
Back in 1602 Weissbier could only be brewed by ducal privilege. It was Munich’s first Hefe Weizen. Hofbräuhaus enjoyed this exclusive right for nearly 200 years, thus holding a monopoly on Weissbier in Bavaria.
But even without a monopoly, Hofbräu Hefe Weizen is a really special kind of beer. Characterized by its sparkling rich foam and distinguished by its unforgettable refreshing and fruity taste. It is brewed according to an ancient tradition and offers an alcoholic content of approximately 5.1% by volume. Savor the pure, refreshing enjoyment!
I paid $6.50 for a full mug pour of Hofbrauhaus Munchner Weisse, and that was a deal in my book. It sells in bottles locally at $3.49 for a half liter or $9.99 a six-pack.
My mug of Hofbrauhaus Munchner Weisse arrived a pale yellow white color with a thick fluffy head and a vibrant banana and clove nose. Taking a sip, there’s tart crackery wheat up front, heavy clove, fruity banana, a hint of vanilla, and a refreshing tart wheat finish.
What a beautiful beer! If anyone can do Hefeweizen it’s the Germans (their style after all), and this is a truly fine one. The glass was a bonus; I would have bought this beer even without the tchotchke. I’ll be taking some home in bottles too just to have it on hand. Why don’t you as well?
And remember, try a new beer today, and drink outside the box.
