I just love a crisp refreshing hefeweizen friends, especially in the summertime. I’m also very fond of the Hi-Wire Brewing Company, aka The Three Ring Brewing Company, of Asheville, North Carolina. I visited Hi Wire back in April of 2014, and enjoyed the delightful beers at very reasonable prices there.
July on 2015 found me back prowling the streets of Asheville, although this time I didn’t get a chance to drop by the Hi Wire brewery. I did, though, bring some of the brewery home with me in the form of Hi-Wire Uprisin’ Hefeweizen, a beer I picked up at Bruisin Ales in Asheville. Bruisin Ales, if a bit pricey, does have the best selection of beers I’ve come across in Asheville, and I always make it a point to stop there.
From the label:
Uprisin’ a traditional wheat ale with big ester notes of banana- backed by tones of clove and peppercorn. Brewed with 100% North Carolina grown wheat from Riverbend Malt House in Asheville, NC, this beer is sure to become your summer favorite.
Hi-Wire Uprisin’ Hefeweizen has an alcohol content of 5% by volume and was running $8.99 a six-pack. The bottle I’m drinking tonight is marked as packaged June 20th, 2015. I drank it November 1st.
Hi-Wire Uprisin’ Hefeweizen pours to a yellow-golden color with a thick foamy head and a bit of clove, banana and peppercorn in the nose. Taking a sip, the beer is more phenolic on the palate than in the nose with more of the clove, less of the pepper and a bit of banana in the tart wheat crackery finish. Make no mistakes, this one won’t be challenging the Bavarian classics anytime soon, but it’s a tasty refreshing hefeweizen at a decent price and one that I would buy again.
And remember, try a new beer today, and drink outside the box.
