Strongman Coffee Milk Stout Ale Brewed with Locally Roasted Coffee
Review Date 2/28/2024 By John Staradumsky
I’m so glad for the day I stumbled on Hi-Wire Brewing in Asheville, North Carolina. Like, literally stumbled on them. I was walking from a pleasant stop at Wicked Weed on the way to find Wedge, and was passing right by Hi-Wire. I had never been there, so of course I popped in for a pint or two, and the rest is history.
Tonight, I’m enjoying the fruits of Hi-Wire’s labors again in the form of their Strongman Coffee Milk Stout Ale Brewed with Locally Roasted Coffee. I’m enjoying a draft mug at Taco Mac, and it was one of the beers highest on my priority list to try tonight. I have never had it before, you see, and I do so love a good coffee stout. Hi-Wire never does anything by half measures, and Strongman Coffee Milk Stout is no exception.
Hi-Wire says:
Inspired by our head brewer’s cafe con leche-fueled travels in Key West, this is a milk stout with some kick. Local coffee from Dynamite Roasting Co. is cold-extracted and added post fermentation to this sweet, creamy beer.
Hi-Wire Strongman Coffee Milk Stout Ale Brewed with Locally Roasted Coffee has an alcohol content of 5.3% by volume with 28 IBUs. I paid $6.44 for my 23-ounce draft mug at Taco Mac. Total Wine sells this for $10.49 a six-pack of pint cans in Lexington, Kentucky, and that is a great bargain these days.
My mug of Hi-Wire Strongman Coffee Milk Stout Ale Brewed with Locally Roasted Coffee arrived jet-black in color with a moderate head of tan colored foam and a nose of intense coffee grinds. Taking a sip, the beer is medium to full body and coffeeish like that first cup of black coffee in the morning after a night out drinking. Caramel, a hint of licorice, and a soft note of cream emerge, then the beer finishes roasty and dry.
To style and hedonistically I give this 4 out of 5, but then I’ll tack on a half star extra credit for the bargain price.
Glad I tried it? T
Would I rebuy it??
