10W-40 Imperial Stout Brewed with Maple Syrup, Chocolate, Vanilla, Pink Himalayan Salt, & Lactose

Review Date 2/28/2020    By John Staradumsky

Well didn’t I put the cart before the horse, and in more ways than one. First off, I tried Hi-Wire salted maple 10W-40 Imperial Stout Brewed with Maple Syrup, Chocolate, Vanilla, Pink Himalayan Salt, & Lactose last August, and I’m only reviewing it now after I just posted my thoughts on the original 10W-40 Imperial Stout Brewed with Coffee, Chocolate & Vanilla. Chalk it up to the great web hosting provider chaos of 2019, when my website started glitching and my hosting provider was no help at all. It took me a year to get straightened out and I’m still redesigning pages on my new provider.

That said, here I am with my second cart before th horse moment; namely, I tried one of the 10W-40 variants before the original. No worries there, though, in fact good came of it. I liked the single of Hi Wire salted maple 10W-40 Imperial Stout Brewed with Maple Syrup, Chocolate, Vanilla, Pink Himalayan Salt, & Lactose so much I made sure to get a 4-pack when I came upon the original.

Grammar cops take note: the “salted maple” is not capitalized here because Hi-Wire does not do so on the label. Hi-Wire salted maple 10W-40 Imperial Stout has an alcohol content of 8% by volume and I don’t recall what it was going for when I bought it. Hi-Wire no longer has a listing for this beer on their website, but Untappd quotes them as follows:

This extra special batch of our 10W-40 Imperial Stout was brewed with maple syrup, chocolate, vanilla, pink Himalayan salt, and lactose. Boasting huge notes of salted maple bar and caramelized sugar, this beer is incredibly smooth and chocolatey finish.

Hi-Wire salted maple 10W-40 Imperial Stout Brewed with Maple Syrup, Chocolate, Vanilla, Pink Himalayan Salt, & Lactose pours to a jet black color with a thin head formation, and that on a rather vigorous pour. The nose is full of the sticky sweet maple syrup. Taking a sip, the beer is smooth malty with chocolate and fluffy marshmallow vanilla and even more maple syrup. The maple flavors abound here, and then in the finish the salt comes through and lingers on the tongue. It dried the beer and makes you want another sip. All of the flavors here meld wonderfully, but it’s the salt that punctuates and ties them all together.

Magnificent! I liked this one more than I (eventually) liked the original. I must buy more the next time I see this.

And remember, try a new beer today, and drink outside the box.
