I’m here again! Taco Mac that is, my favorite place to have a beer away from home. There are, admittedly, quite a few Taco Macs here in Georgia, and I’m at the Canton location, my favorite of all Taco Macs. That’s most because it’s so close to me, I can literally walk here (as I did today). Normally, I visit about once a week, usually on a Thursday (pint glass night) or a Sunday (mostly during football season). Today, though, is a Tuesday, and I’m here tonight to drink a few beers so I can come back Thursday and drink four more-and become a Brewniversity Dean.
It takes 750 “credits” (unique beers or sometimes specially advertised repeats) to be a Dean, and for that you get a really cool German-style growler. Right now, I’m sipping a frothy mug of Heavy Seas TropiCannon, credit 746 in my Brewniversity studies. This is a special edition of Heavy Seas Loose Cannon infused with mangos, blood oranges, and grapefruit.
From the website:
Our brand new citrus IPA is exploding with bright citrus aroma and flavor. Creating an exciting new variation on our flagship Loose Cannon, TropiCannon clocks in at the same 7.25%ABV as it's cousin, but packs a full blast of blood orange, grapefruit, mango and lemon flavor. We've downplayed some of Loose Cannon's piney-ness and amped up the citrus by swapping Centennial and Palisade hops for Amarillo and even more Simcoe. We've introduced dried grapefruit, orange and lemon peel in the brewing process and added mango, blood orange and more grapefruit post-fermentation.

Heavy Seas TropiCannon has 45 IBUs and I paid $6 for a 20-ounce mug. This is a seasonal release.
My mug of Heavy Seas TropiCannon arrived a bright orange color with a thick fluffy white head of foam and a brilliant citrus nose. Sipping gives you a firm backbone of light caramel malt and a palate bursting with citrus and juicy passion fruit, vibrant grapefruit, pulpy fragrant blood orange, and orange jello. A gentle balancing hop bitterness can be discerned at the last.
Heavy Seas makes no bones about this beer being a fruit bomb, and though some may find that it’s too fruity, I for one loved it. It’s more of a fruit beer than an IPA, but I think it’s a great refresher for warm spring and hot summer weather. I for one will be buying it again.
And remember, try a new beer today, and drink outside the box.
