Harpoon L.L. Bean Harvest Lager
Review Date 8/23/2024 By John Staradumsky
The Harpoon Fall Mix Pack is here! It’s here in Georgia, anyway. Harpoon, of course, was one of the first craft breweries I came across back in the late 1980s. In those days I lived in Rhode Island, right next door to Harpoon’s native Massachusetts. That was a long time ago, and I have lived here in Georgia since 2001 now. I have been ever grateful to have Harpoon beers sold here most of that time.
Back to the 2024 Fall Mix Pack, though. I saw them at Total Wine in mid-August, so of course I bought one. This sampler featured three cans each of four different beers:
Harpoon L.L. Bean Harvest Lager
It is the L.L. Bean Harvest Lager I am here to talk about today. It is the only beer in the sampler new to me, though I will confess the main attraction was the Harpoon Octoberfest, which I have not seen in a few years here in Georgia. Apparently this year you can only get it in the 12-pack. The L.L. Bean Harvest Lager is also exclusive to this sampler.
Harpoon says of the L.L. Bean harvest Lager:
Brewed in the spirit of friendship, New England craftsmanship, and the idea that being outdoors is better together. Whether you’re a weekend warrior or an urban explorer, this beer was brewed for all of us who strive to “be an outsider.”
A smooth, crisp, and balanced Amber Lager brewed with Maine-grown malt and balanced with a mild hop spice delivers an easy-drinking finish perfect for any Fall occasion. Gather friends and get outside.
Maine grown malt! Now that is an interesting concept. Barley thrives in cooler climes, so this makes sense to me.
Harpoon L.L. Bean Harvest Lager has an alcohol content of 5% by volume. I paid $21.99 for my 12-pack. My can is stamped pkg 07/15/24.
Harpoon L.L. Bean Harvest Lager pours to a bright golden amber color with a thick rocky head of foam and a crisp delicious biscuity malt nose. Taking a sip, the beer is medium in body, delightfully toasty with fresh bread notes, complete with a hearty thick crust. It finishes clean iand satisfying with a robust hop bitterness.
Very tasty indeed, this was a great first beer of the night on a cool 82° August evening.
Glad I tried it? T
Would I rebuy it??
