Harpoon Big League

Review Date 7/2/2021  By John Staradumsky

Hey there, Hah-poon Brewin’ of Bawstun, Mass. You’ve made it to the big leagues! Or at least, you’ve made the Big League! Big League big and juicy IPA, that is.  After all, every other brewery in America is on the haze craze these days, so why not you? As Harpoon says on the label, this one has Big Hops + Big Haze. They further say:

While Rec. League is our ultimate cool-down companion, sometimes life calls for a beer that packs an even bigger refreshingly-tropical-hop-filled punch. So we took that hazy pale ale recipe and multiplied everything by two (dry hops included), to create an extra citrusy and surprisingly crushable hazy IPA. Big wins call for big hops, no matter the player.

They also list

Featured Hops: Citra, Ekuanot, Cascade, Simcoe

Grain Bill: 2-row Pale, Oat Malt, Blonde Roasted Oats, Wheat, Buckwheat Kasha

Harpoon Big League has an alcohol content of 7.5% by volume with 50 IBUs. I got a few bottles from my daughter but Total Wine sells it in Georgia for $10.49 a 4-pack of pint cans.

Harpoon Big League pours to a hazy orange color with a big fluffy white head and a juicy orange citrus nose. Taking a sip, the beer is medium in body with lots of orange and tangerine citrus, tropical mango, some minty hop aroma, mild bitterness and warming alcohol at the last.

Harpoon’s hazy double IPA is as good as many others I have tried, and I enjoyed it on a warm spring afternoon. I am definitely up for more of this baby. After all, everyone wants a chance at the Big League.

And remember, try a new beer today, and drink outside the box.
