Hammer & Nail Brewers operate out of Watertown, CT and get their name from the two principals: Pete Hammer and Kit Nagel (German for Nail). I have been generally impressed with their beers sampled so far (brown ale, Scotch, and Vienna Lager). Tonight I'm popping a 22 of their ESB and enjoying it for the first time. Color is russet-copper, and the beer is well-carbonated with a decidedly malty nose. The malt body is considerable, slightly sweet and assertively toffeeish, chewy and slightly bock like, a trifle nutty as well. A combination of hop bitterness and carbonation give the brew some bite in the finish. A really nice effort.
And remember, try a new beer today, and drink outside the box.
