One of the more interesting breweries in Blue Ridge, Georgia is Grumpy Old Men. Run by a couple of grumpy old men, it gives new meaning to the term truth in advertising. They started selling beer in 2013 and only distribute beer in Georgia and in limited quantities (they call themselves a nanobrewery). You can tour the brewery and drink beer there and Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays.
Their motto:
If we don't like it, we don't drink it.
If we don't drink it, we don't sell it.
Cool, that. Recently, the Grumpy Old Men started canning, and I came across a six-pack of Grumpy Old Men Grasshoppa Imperial India Pale Ale at Uncle Jack’s here in Canton.
Grumpy Old Men Grasshoppa Imperial India Pale Ale has an alcohol content of 8% by volume and I paid $10.99 for my six-pack. My can is stamped on the bottom with a packaging date of 06/09/16 and I drank the can from which my current tasting notes are derived on August 31st.
Grumpy Old Men Grasshoppa Imperial India Pale Ale pours to a bright orange color with a thick creamy head of foam and a vibrant herbal grassy hop nose. Taking a sip, the beer is rich up front with thick juicy caramel malt, a hint of butterscotch even, then waves and waves of earthy, herbal, grassy hops that wax bitter and very bitter indeed. As bitter as a grumpy old man? Maybe not that bitter.
A wonderful, delicious aromatic DIPA, I’m loving the earthy herbal hops here, and I think you will too.
And remember, try a new beer today, and drink outside the box.
