I should have picked up a 4-pack of Green Man the Dweller Imperial Stout, this much is known. As it is, I bought a single, but you really can’t blame me. I was traveling through South Carolina and stopped in Greenville at Total Wine, and a single of Green Man the Dweller Imperial Stout was one of the beers I bought. I’ve never had a bad beer from Asheville’s The Green man yet but hey, my trunk only holds so much beer, and so we can’t buy a 4-pack or 6-pack of everything.
Be that as it may, this is an exceptional beer and one I drank fairly young for an imperial stout. It’s so good I want more, some to enjoy now, and a few bottles to age and see how they develop with a bit of time. A good imperial stout will age nicely and improve, and I think of mellowing would round the edges off this one and be interesting indeed.
From the brewery website:
Robust and warming, this stout has hints of coffee and dark chocolate. A complex variety of roasted malts, and moderate hopping temper the pleasant sweetness of this brew. This special batch lurked in our cellar until our brewers felt it was worthy of its name.
Green Man the Dweller Imperial Stout has an alcohol content of 10% by volume with 65 IBUs. It’s pricey at $12.99 a 4-pack, but in this case I would certainly pay that again. It’s that good. My bottle was packaged on January 18th of 2016; I darnk it on May 26th.
Green Man the Dweller Imperial Stout pours to a jet black color with a moderate head of creamy tan foam and a luscious caramel and roasted malt nose. Taking a sip, the beer has a firm thick mouthfeel to it with a truly intense roasty character, toffee, coffee with cream, herbal grassy hops and an amazingly burnt roasty bitter finish.
Green Man the Dweller Imperial Stout is almost harshly astringent with tis intense roasty flavor; it’s equally flavorful and truly a wonderful beer experience. I would give it 5 stars hedonistically and for style, with a half star off for the high price.
And remember, try a new beer today, and drink outside the box.
