The
first thing one notices about this beer is the spicy hop nose, the aroma
wafts through the air as you pour this murky orange brew into your glass.
The bottle-conditioning leaves a large rocky head atop the beer. As with
all of the Goose Island beers I’ve tasted, the palate has a phenolic,
malty, spicy hop character to it.
The balance on this beer definitely defers to the hop category, the finish is pleasantly bitter and refreshing. Certainly a top notch brew, and vivid proof that brewers in the center of the USA are every bit as capable of producing excellent beers as their East and West coast counterparts.
I have always been fortunate enough to get the stuff fresh, be it from a friend, Beer Across America, or most recently my brother who brought back four fantastic bottles of Honkers he picked up in an airport bar (at $4 each no less!)
And remember, try a new beer today, and drink outside the box.
